Mr. West represents banks, trust departments, businesses, families and non-profits in disputes involving trusts and estates, banking, business and property. An experienced litigation attorney, West is Board Certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in Civil Trial Law and has represented clients in more than 50 jury and non-jury trials and arbitrations in federal and state courts.
In addition to his litigation practice, West is a trusted advisor to banks on the rights of parties in accounts, powers of attorney, check fraud, ACH and wire fraud, elder fraud and Uniform Commercial Code issues.
West has been recognized by BL Rankings in The Best Lawyers in each year since 2011 and as San Antonio Lawyer of the Year in Litigation-Banking for 2023; for 2024 he is recognized in the areas of Commercial Litigation, Banking & Finance Litigation, and Trust & Estates Litigation. He has also been recognized by Thomson Reuters Texas Super Lawyers each year since 2009, Martindale Hubbell AV Preeminent rating since 1997, and as one of San Antonio’s Top Attorneys in Litigation by San Antonio Magazine.
West previously served as the head of the Litigation Department and on the Management Advisory Committee of Cox & Smith Incorporated. He was part of the office of firm counsel for Cox & Smith Incorporated and, subsequently, Dykema Gossett, PLLC, where he practiced for more than 30 years.
Prior to private practice, West was a law clerk for The Honorable Thomas M. Reavley, Justice of the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, and The Honorable Jack Roberts, U. S. District Court, Austin.
